Trident Refractory Specialists

Quartis Limited

Single point of accountability for your refractory needs

CMSL provides refractory services that protect your critical assets and extend equipment life — bringing together installation expertise, materials knowledge, and quality assurance under one coordinated structure.

Through strategic partnerships with Trident Refractory Specialists (South Africa) and Quartis Limited (UK), we give clients the depth of international specialist expertise without the complexity of managing multiple contractors.

What this means for you

01

Single point of accountability

One coordinated structure instead of multiple contractors — no scope gaps, duplication, or delays between engineering and installation.

02

Reduced downtime

Aligned scheduling between engineering and refractory scopes means your shutdown windows are used efficiently.

03

Quality guaranteed

Independent QA/QC and testing ensure every installation meets specification — reducing the risk of premature failure.

04

End-to-end delivery

From engineering design to installation, inspection, and commissioning — all under one roof.

What we deliver

Our refractory services

Full-scope refractory capability — from new installation and controlled demolition to repair, inspection, failure analysis, and materials supply.

Installation

01

Refractory installation

Bricklaying, castable and gunning applications, furnace and kiln lining for new builds, revamps, and maintenance shutdowns. Our installation teams bring decades of hands-on experience across a wide range of high-temperature equipment and refractory systems — from insulating castable and monolithic systems to ceramic fiber and specialized abrasion-resistant linings.

High-risk ops

02

Refractory demolition

Controlled breakout and removal of degraded refractory linings during shutdowns, including high-risk confined space operations. All demolition activities are executed under strict HSE protocols, with confined space management and rescue standby where required.

Repair

03

Refractory repair & maintenance

Planned and emergency repair of refractory linings to restore thermal protection and extend equipment service life. We respond to both scheduled maintenance shutdowns and urgent failure situations — with mobilization timelines tailored to the urgency and location of each project.

Hardware

04

Anchor systems & lining hardware

Design, manufacturing, and installation of anchor systems and high-temperature alloy anchors to secure refractory linings. We can supply a wide range of refractory anchors in various material grades and configurations through our associated manufacturing capabilities — ensuring quality control and reliable delivery.

Materials

05

Refractory materials & precast

Material sourcing and supply, precast shapes, and custom refractory solutions matched to your process conditions. We offer both turnkey material supply as part of a complete installation scope, and material-only supply where clients have preferred procurement arrangements already in place.

QA/QC

06

Inspection & quality assurance

Independent refractory inspection, QA/QC, and supervision during shutdowns, new builds, and maintenance — ensuring installations meet specification and reducing the risk of premature failure. Delivered through our partnership with Quartis Limited, a global leader in independent refractory inspection with over 40 years of industry experience and particular expertise in FCC units.

Analysis

07

Testing & failure analysis

Refractory sample testing, material evaluation, and failure analysis to verify performance, identify root causes of degradation, and inform maintenance decisions. We also provide thermal imaging surveys and refractory condition assessments to identify hot spots, insulation breakdown, lining deterioration, and potential failure areas — supporting proactive maintenance planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

1What refractory systems do you work with?
We work with a comprehensive range of refractory systems, including insulating castables, monolithic refractory systems, refractory brick linings, ceramic fibre systems, plastic refractories, gunning mixes, and specialised abrasion- and chemical-resistant linings. Our experience covers equipment such as kilns, furnaces, boilers, reactors, regenerators, cyclones, ducting, and Flue Gas Systems across multiple industries.
2Can you carry out refractory repairs during a live operation, or does it always require a shutdown?
The answer depends on the nature and extent of the damage. Certain external repairs and condition-monitoring activities can be performed while equipment remains operational. However, most refractory repairs and replacements require a planned shutdown to ensure safe access, proper installation practices, and long-term reliability.
3Do you provide thermal imaging surveys to identify refractory failures before they become critical?
Yes, we can provide thermal imaging surveys and refractory condition assessments to identify hot spots, insulation breakdown, lining deterioration, and potential failure areas. These surveys assist clients in planning maintenance activities proactively and minimizing unplanned downtime.
4What is your typical mobilisation time for emergency refractory repairs?
Our mobilisation time depends on project location, visa requirements, and client-specific site access requirements. Where personnel already hold valid work permits, visas, and required certifications, we can typically mobilise to Nigeria within 3–4 days. Where immigration documentation, work permits, or other administrative approvals are required, mobilisation may take approximately 7–14 working days. For critical situations, we work closely with clients to expedite the process wherever possible.
5Do you supply refractory materials, or does the client procure them?
We offer both options. We can provide a complete turnkey solution, including the supply of refractory materials, anchors, insulation products, and installation services. Alternatively, we can work with client-supplied materials where preferred procurement arrangements are already in place.
6Do you manufacture your own refractory anchors?
Yes. Through our associated manufacturing capabilities, we can supply a wide range of refractory anchors in various material grades and configurations, ensuring quality control and reliable delivery.
7What industries do you serve?
We support clients in the cement and lime, refining & petrochemical, aluminium primary & secondary, Ferrous and non-ferrous foundries, pulp and paper, and sugar industry.
8Can you manage complete refractory shutdown projects?
Yes. We provide turnkey refractory shutdown services, including planning, demolition, material supply, installation, quality control, dry-out support, and project reporting.
